Property Description

Eboleth House, located in Sargentville, is named after the original family that lived there during the turn of the century. The current owners’ family purchased the property in 1932 and have lovingly restored and updated it. Eboleth has 4 bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms and sits in a field overlooking Eggemoggin Reach and the Sedgwick/Deer Isle bridge.

Relax on the wrap-around porch enjoying the view of the bridge and meadow that was once an apple orchard. A short walk through the field leads to new stairs leading down to the private beach overlooking the Deer Isle Bridge and the beautiful sailing lanes of Eggemoggin Reach. The main floor includes the living area with comfortable seating and the dining area that seats 8. The kitchen is spacious and has the original handmade table and chairs. There is also a half bath that includes a new stackable washer/dryer. Like many of the old farmhouses in the area there is a back set of stairs as well as the main stairs leading to the second floor. The main spiral stairs are made of very sturdy, unique tree branches and built by the owners’ father, a master craftsman. They lead to 4 cozy bedrooms, each with a full bed and comfortable mattress. There are 4 additional cots available. While the fireplace is no longer used the rooms are individually heated in case of chilly mornings or evenings and an air conditioner is available. The spacious kitchen includes everything needed for cooking family meals.

Enjoy Internet access, Eboleth House is in a central location for families to stay while visiting Deer Isle and area towns. About an hour from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, guests can enjoy a visit to the busy tourist areas of Mount Desert Island and then return to the peace and quiet of Sargentville for quiet and carefree evenings. Pets are welcomed with prior approval.

Testimonials

Eboleth House - lovingly restored

September 3, 2023

The property was a great find, very warm & open for a family. The screened in porch alone was worth the rental. The private beach is small but is a very good place to go fishing (my son loved it). Assuming the water is well-based, so it does have an odor, but it that should be expected. (Didn’t bother us at all). We used it as a base camp to get to Acadia, and it was all we hoped for. I would highly recommend and would stay here again.

Eboleth House - lovingly restored

Plenty of space for a quick acadia hiking trip with my seven year old son and our dog. Beach access, fire pit and everything else on the property were great!

Great value for the money, would highly recommend

July 28, 2023

This is a great house! We had a small family gathering and this location & facilities were perfect. There is a small private beach which is great for fishing, and the house was very functional. The best feature of the house is the screened in porch…perfect for sitting out and watching the wildlife…big enough to hold the entire party. (My kids actually slept outside on the porch). Great value for the money, would highly recommend.

Spacious and relaxing

July 20, 2022

We have enjoyed this house two years in a row. It is spacious, clean, and well appointed. Best features? The screened-in porch is wide and wonderful and has rocking chairs and rocking benches, so comfortable. I love the beach for swimming, the water is clean and clear and warmer than the open ocean. A bit of traffic noise didn’t bother us.

Beautiful house! Very private!

July 5, 2022

Fantastic screen porch, short walk to the water, large living spaces. Well-equipped kitchen, washer, and dryer. The washer and dryer are in the 2nd bathroom, I think in place of a 2nd shower, so we needed a shower schedule for 6 adults, but glad to have the washer! Close to our Maine family and friends – I would rent this again!

Nice place near Deer Isle

September 21, 2021

We were happy with the house. It was right Deer Isle and comfortable and only a short walk from the Reach. The hosts were very responsive.

Beautiful without the Hustle Bustle

September 9, 2021

Property right at the edge of deer island, They had four bedrooms which was plenty of space for us, the property itself while originally old has some tastefully done items and all the essential amenities. The beach is nearby accessible through a set of stairs. We loved the area, very beautiful without the hustle bustle of bar harbor.

Even Better Than the First

August 17, 2019

This was my second stay at Eboleth, and it was even better than the first. The steps going down to the beach were finished, so access was much easier. And the beach is wonderful! They added more essentials in the kitchen and a few other things around the house that make it perfect. I also discovered there’s an apple tree in the yard; the view in the fall will be amazing. Per my last review, the location is great, the house is comfortable and clean. Highly recommend.

Great for Relaxation

July 18, 2019

The house is lovingly furnished and decorated. The porch is amazing and the beach is great for relaxation and finding sand dollars and sea glass; note that accessing the beach is sketchy at the moment because the new stairs are unfinished. Our dogs loved the ceramic tile in the entry. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen and bathroom amenities are good. The house is near a very busy road; we slept with the windows open and found the passing cars were not disturbing. We highly recommend El El Frijoles for Mexican food a very short ride away, Pug Nuts Ice Cream in Surry, soft serve is available at a gas station up Rte 15 towards Caterpillar Hill, and Tinder Hearth in Brooksville (wood-fired bread, pastries, croissants, pizza). The Caterpillar Hill overlook is a great place to watch the sunset.

Deserved Five Stars

July 11, 2019

This is a brand new rental (I may have been the first renter) so there are little glitches here and there, but I still thought it deserved five stars. Nichole (DownEast Rentals) was great about getting back to me when I had questions. I am actually from Maine, I was staying at Eboleth due to a house fire. So, I wasn’t there for a typical vacation. I was in the house most of the time, and almost everything in the house is new, which was fabulous. They have all you could possibly need, (they left some local, fresh, coffee grounds for me too) and lots of information on the area. The living room is very comfortable. A huge bonus is a nice TV…with cable. Most rentals don’t have cable anymore. And, there is AC! The screened-in porch is awesome. There are brand new wooden chairs and sliders, if I was with a group, I would have been on the porch all the time. It is a true farmhouse, very pretty, and secluded, I even saw deer. The beach is amazing, I found sea glass and shells. Once the stairs are finished, it will be a great setup. From the beach, you can see across to Deer Isle, there are boats on the water, the bridge in the background, it’s very picturesque. Oh, and they have the plushest bath towels ever! I would gladly come back.
