Property Description

Gray Cottage is located on the border of Blue Hill and Brooklin, overlooking Blue Hill Bay and across the waters to the Acadia region. This rustic, 1940s classic beach cottage sits 10 feet from the shore and is fronted by a meandering sandy beach that is a mix of rocky outcroppings and sand and backed by 15 acres of pastoral fields. It offers the quintessential Maine summer cottage experience – simple yet meeting all the needs for a relaxed vacation.

A spacious living room opens to the waterside and covered porch with inspiring views out over the water. The kitchen is just off the living room, as are the three cozy bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are on the back side overlooking the pasture, while the waterside bedroom has wrap-around windows that take in the view from all sides. While not fancy, it would be hard to beat the beach, setting, and views from this cottage, and the location is convenient for enjoying not only the coastal villages on Brooklin and Blue Hill, but Deer Isle to the south, Castine to the west, and Acadia to the east – all just a short drive away. For those liking that classic New England experience in a prime oceanfront setting, Gray Cottage is your place! The view from the covered porch and oceanside windows is a panorama of dancing waves. The color of the light and ocean changes with the season…..from an impossibly deep green and blue to a gun metal gray when a noreaster blows in. Enjoy the sounds of the waves and the fresh ocean air right in your bedroom.

If you’re looking for a slower rhythm of days and a way to make the tension in your shoulders drain away, than this refuge by the sea is a perfect choice.

Testimonials

A rustic, beautifully restored 1940s cottage

Perfect place for a Maine respite.

Great experience

It was a nice quiet country getaway

Charming remote cottage right on the beach

October 16, 2021

Gray cottage is just the hideaway on the beach we were looking for. We got away from the tv and sat by the fireplace and read our books. Nearby hiking is fantastic. Only 4 miles from Bluehill and groceries. The caretakers are nearby and super helpful if a need arises. Sweet kitchen to cook and bake in.

A lovely respite

October 13, 2021

For our four-day stay to see Acadia National Park and to just get away, this was the perfect spot!

The cottage is over 30 miles from Acadia. For us, this was a blessing: after a day of hiking and taking in the beauty of Acadia, we were able to light a fire and the grill, kick back, and thoroughly relax.

The house was comfortable and clean. Beds were comfy and heated in the master bedroom! Nice deep bathtub, equipped kitchen, and most importantly, enveloped in serene and quiet surroundings.

The back porch invites you to come out and take in the rising and setting of the sun. It is the country, and thus we were not expecting the Ritz Carlton. We wanted to chill, and chill we did !!!!

Perfect location

Definitely a rustic cabin right on the water. We found it to be perfect for us. Fully stocked kitchen and wonderful master with lots of natural light facing the water. Very close to blue hill, deer island and about an hour to Acadia.

Secluded and Quiet

July 10, 2019

A beautiful, peaceful place. Secluded and quiet, waking up to the sound of the ocean every morning was a dream come true. A rustic cabin with breathtaking views. It was a very relaxing vacation indeed. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of linens and towels, board games, books and lots of seating, they also provided fans for the extra warm summer nights. There was one visible neighbor who I don’t even think was home the entire time, it was otherwise completely quiet from any noise other than birds, boats and the ocean. I would GLADLY stay here again!
