This is a sweet camp in a GREAT location on Deer Isle, central to everything.
If you are a germaphobe or want luxury, this is not your place. The appliances are old, and it needs a deep clean. But it also has a ton of charm, and is well appointed. Our 7 year old enjoyed all the lobster traps and old signs up.
Our family of 3 very much enjoyed our stay. You have to walk outside to use the incinerator toilet, but that too added to the charm of the place.
Hot shower and outdoor shower are both great.
Note that the street address they gave us wasn’t in gmaps, so you may want to put in the fire road (484), as that worked for us after some sleuthing.
Also, there’s no guidebook in the place, so you may want to talk to locals or do your own research before arriving. Our family loved:
– hiking the quarry
– hiking out to Barred Island at low tide
– eating at LDI Lobster
– muffin place on Deer Isle (forget the name of it, but big sign out front)
– swimming at Lily Pond
We also loved meeting the owner, Mae Mae, who allowed us to borrow her Red Sox Jenga!! Lots of fun.
Disconnected Maine Getaway
September 24, 2020
This is definitely a rustic Maine camp set in a great location on Deer Isle. You have a lovely view of the water through the trees and there are awesome spots for setting up a hammock on the water and enjoying the ocean. Overall we enjoyed our trip, but wished that the house had been more clean when we arrived. It’s also important to note that the bathroom and all water in the house drains out to the rocks/ocean. I wish we had known that before, as we would have brought only biodegradable products with us. We ended up buying biodegradable dish soap and Dr. Bronners at the store to avoid run-off of normal products into the ocean. The host was very easy to communicate with and helped us find the location! Overall a fun spot for a disconnected Maine getaway.

A great escape into the wilderness. Amazing views, nice location on the cove with plenty of wooded terrain for kids to play outside. Incinerating toilet was quite an experience, I guess it adds to the camping feel of the place. Using it was ok, emptying out the ashes is less enjoyable… Overall a nice place for a vacation to escape civilization.

We vacationed there at the start of August with temperatures of 80-93 and it was fabulous. Outdoor showers (with nice hot water), raspberry bushes, fire toilet (yup, electric incinerating toilet), and enough beds to host two vans of families. Fantastic quiet spot and relaxing atmosphere.
Rustic but Comfortable

A rustic but comfortable “camp”. The host is great. The place is as described and very private. It’s simple and well set up everything you would need is there. There is no internet so we brought lots of DVDs. I wasn’t a fan of the electric incinerating toilet but it worked fine.
Exactly What Were Looking For

We had an awesome stay. This place is rustic but it was exactly what we were looking for. Deer Isle and Stonington are some of our favorite spots in Maine.

Fun, quirky space! Loved, the woods, thw water, the outdoor shower and the bath, and the location. Loved the laid back vibe—didn’t have to worry at all! And we were so happy we could take our fur baby, too. Thank you. We’ll be back!

The cabin is charming and beds comfortable. The electric toilet worked very well, even with heavy use. Deer Isle/Stonington is a gorgeous area with plenty to do. I wish the kitchen cupboards and items in them had been cleaner.
Calm and Relaxing Place
July 13, 2018
Park place is a very calm and relaxing place. Everything is there for a wonderful stay; cozy beds and outdoor shower and bathtub, well-equipped kitchen, beautiful moss forest trail to go to the shore and, most of all, the Down East Maine relaxed and calm lifestyle…and as a bonus, you’re surrounded by the sea, which brings a very peaceful and fulfilling sensation. So it was a wonderful place to stay for a family of 2 adults and four children.
We highly recommend!
Lots of Attention to Detail
August 14, 2017
Our stay at Park Place was nothing short of amazing. The rustic style of the home and the decor were so lovely – lots of attention to detail! Everything was very clean, the owners left lots of notes and instructions for us and we felt so at home and relaxed. The property is awesome.. the trail down to the water is beautiful and we really enjoyed sitting on the deck. The view of the stars was amazing and we even saw a bald eagle one morning! We were a little nervous about the electric toilet before we checked in, but actually really liked it – it definitely wasn’t as intimidating as we thought and seems very sanitary. The addition of the outdoor shower on the deck was a lot of fun also!
Deer Isle itself was so peaceful.. Stonington is a great little town that’s close by with cute shops. We had the absolute best lobster rolls from Stonecutter Kitchen and visited Yellow Birch Farm for fresh bread and goat cheese. The quiet small town vibe of Deer Isle was a nice break from the tourist areas while still being close enough to visit.. Acadia and Bar Harbor were very easy to get to with lots of galleries, shops and lobster shacks on the way!
We will definitely visit Deer Isle again and can’t wait to stay at Park Place on our next trip!
